Assessment System for Hazard Surveys

amazing software for explosives safety

Now with support for the DoD ESS (Explosives Safety Siting) System

  • ASHS blazes through automatic distance and exposure calculations for an entire installation in minutes.
  • Automatically detects barricades, either natural or man-made.
  • Performs quantity-distance (QD) calculations using a database of explosives safety criteria.
  • Detects, highlights, and diagrams problems with existing explosives sitings.
  • Automates the creation of combined or uncombined QD clear zone arcs on the electronic map.
  • Outputs explosives risk assessment reports based on blast overpressure.
  • Exports database and maps to DoD standard ESS system
  • Creates an entire siting package including an automatically annotated site map.

ASHS was designed as a tool to help explosives safety analysts comply with regulations governing the amount of stored explosives and the prudent separation distances to other facilities. If you are an explosives safety professional  or a community planner in civil engineering in any military service, you will benefit from the use of this program. The United States Air Force Safety Center (AFSC) maintains the criteria and provides training and technical support for ASHS.  Here is what they say about it:

"ASHS is the Air Force system for computerized site planning. It improves the quantity and quality of explosives site plans and reduces completion time from months to days. It also simplifies data management and automated planning tasks including quantity-distance calculations, identifying explosives clear zones, and generating maps and explosives risk assessment reports. ASHS is the tool for layout of base munitions storage, maintenance and operations throughout the Air Force. It is deployed throughout the Air Force, around the world, at more than 64 installations. In addition, the Army at Camp Darby, Italy has implemented ASHS and personnel from USAREUR and Ft. Bragg have received ASHS training. More than 1,000 error free explosives site plans are generated each year by ASHS. ASHS can be used by any service for explosives site planning. Explosives site planning is required by law."

Notice:  The Air Force Safety Center was not able to fund FY12 ASHS Technical Support.  Major Commands should contact AFSC if they would like to fund support using the existing contract.  Other organizations may wish to a purchase prepaid service using a credit card.  If your organization would like to receive technical support from ISA on the products available on this web site, you have the option to purchase yearly prepaid service for the current price of $5300 for each increment of 40 hours.  Contact Bill Fiske (bill.fiske@isa.com) 850-862-7321 for further information.

The About ASHS page give a quick look at some of the most commonly used screens, along with a short summary of their use.

How ASHS Works

An introduction to ASHS that gives a short tutorial on the use of ASHS along with ASHS Concepts, written in a whimsical style that (mostly) entertains while it enlightens. It covers the history of the 4D system that was used to write ASHS, along with some of the database principles behind ASHS.

ASHS Mapping

The ASHS Mapping page shows some examples screens of GIS maps, a source of facility "location footprint" information used in automated distance and exposure calculations.

FAQ

FAQ, as you no doubt already know, stands for Frequently Asked Questions, and is the place to go for quick answers to all of your burning questions about ASHS.

Documentation

The Documentation page is where you can expect to find PDF (Portable Document Format) files of the ASHS User's and Reference Manuals, along with advanced documentation, and back issues of the ASHS News.
